Experience

I was a teaching assistant for over 15 classes at my university, mostly in computer science and statistics. I prepared lessons, ran labs, held office hours, graded work, and tutored students individually. I love to get to know students personally and see them improve in their classes. When I work with students I often provide exercises and worksheets in addition to those assigned by the instructor, so that they can have extra practice. I also emphasize the approach to solving problems, so that students not only understand the correct answer to a problem, but also know how to come up with that answer. I believe that developing this thinking process helps students learn to solve problems without the aid of a tutor or instructor. Currently, I am beginning work as a software engineer at Microsoft. My preference is to tutor in high school math, statistics, or computer science, though I am also comfortable with Latin or introductory Spanish or Russian. I would also be comfortable teaching Indo-European linguistics or Old English to any high school students who are interested. Below I list test scores and courses I have taken at the university: AP Test Scores: Calculus BC – 5; English Language and Composition – 5; English Literature and Composition – 5; Spanish Language and Culture – 5; United States History – 5; Statistics – 4; Chemistry – 4; Physics B – 4; United States Government and Politics – 4 SAT Subject Test Scores: Mathematics Level 2 – 800; Spanish – 790; Chemistry – 720 ACT Composite Score: 34 Relevant Classes in College: MATH: Multivariable Analysis, Linear Algebra, Real Analysis, Abstract Algebra, Knot Theory STATISTICS: Mathematical Statistics, Advanced Probability, Advanced Inference, Regression Analysis, Statistical Methods, Statistical Graphics, Multivariate Statistical Analysis, Nonparametric Function Estimation, Financial Modeling COMPUTER SCIENCE: Algorithmic Thinking, Advanced Algorithms, Machine Learning, Data Science, Data Structures, Object-Oriented Programming, Program Design, Computational Thinking in Python, Computer Systems, Operating Systems, Compilers, Parallel Programming LANGUAGE: Russian I-IV, Latin I-IV, Spanish I-VII (high school), Old English, Old Church Slavonic, Proto-Indo-European, Linguistics OTHER: Physics – Mechanics, Physics – Electricity and Magnetism
