Experience

I have been helping people learn for over fifteen years, simply for the love of it! I understand that everyone has different learning styles and so it's my job to listen to a student's strengths in order to build a method of learning that will both work for them and continue to make them self-sufficient in years to come. I have studied English, History, and the fine arts (graphic design and illustration specifically) at the undergraduate level and I hold a master's in educational psychology. More than just knowing my subjects I know how to listen to the student and work to make what they are learning relevant to them. I specialize in study, organization, and academic/career development skills, English, history, and graphic design (including story boarding and illustration). My lessons work to scaffold important skills in to the student's learning so that they have the knowledge they need to succeed in their coursework. This means designing lessons and work that bolsters what they are already learning rather than assigning additional work to be completed. I can help students develop writing and presentation skills, develop their research skills and build a thesis, manage their workload and readings without sacrificing precious time. I can help students develop critical thinking and meta-knowledge for the writing of papers and understand the intricate web of history. I can also help students with design programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, plan and incorporate design elements, work with color theory, build story boards, and refine drawing techniques. I've held top grades throughout both my experiences at Pierce and Antioch. I hold myself to a high standard and encourage constructive feedback. I also understand that despite all best intentions, life happens. When I'm not working virtually I normally like to meet students in convenient, local spaces such as the public or school library to ensure access to research materials if they should be needed. If the student requires a study space that is quieter to accommodate their learning I am willing to make arrangements. I look forward to hearing from you! Please let me know how I can help you find success and confidence!
