Experience

I have taught full time high school English for the past 10 years. I have worked with students at all ends of the academic spectrum. I've tutored students throughout this time in various forms of writing, as well as critical reading skills. I have taught SAT reading and writing classes for the past two years. After the help I've offered, my students have gone on to universities like Harvard, Stanford, NYU, Seattle University, Smith, University of Boston, and more. I am a well published poet, and I'm on an unpaid sabbatical this year to research and write. I have also coached youths in Spoken Word Slam Poetry teams. I choose to tutor because I love working with youth one-on-one, and I love working with language. The individualized attention I can give as a tutor, the uniquely tailored lesson plans are rewarding to all. I enjoy classroom teaching too, but I have seen students learn so well and grow so much through this kind of work.

Hobbies

In addition to my own writing, I have done improv and social dance for the past three years. When I was in my twenties, I played guitar and sang in an alt-rock band. I am also working on a yoga teacher training. After teaching the Alchemist for years, I spent this fall traveling in the Sahara desert, visiting the Egyptian Pyramids and temples along the Nile. I am working on a book incorporating these myths and stories.
