Experience
All my life I have loved learning, I’ve wanted to know how things work, and I have wanted to share that knowledge with others! My experience tutoring began when I was in grade school and I was assigned to tutor other grade school students in reading, composition, mathematics, spelling, and science. Throughout junior high and high school I continued to tutor others at my grade level and below in these same subjects and additionally foreign languages, social studies, government, and economics. While attending BYU, I focused on education classes, preparing to become a state certified public school teacher. My SAT, ACT, GRE, and GMAT scores were in the 98-99th percentile. I love to tutor because I love sharing my passion for learning with others and I love helping others succeed in school! For each of the subjects I tutor, I have relevant classroom and work/practical experience. Additionally, I have deep cross-cultural experience that includes four years living, teaching, and working in Brazil (cities of Sorocaba, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Brasilia); eight months living, teaching, and working in Manila, The Philippines; and several years working with and training team members from Japan, Singapore, Korea, Indonesia, India, Munich, Helsinki, Dublin, Mexico, and Australia. [Sim, continua falando, escrevendo Portugues] I look forward to tutoring you / your child!

Hobbies
Humans and life interest me very much and I love working with youth! I grew up in a family of sports enthusiasts. Multi-generational gatherings generally including watching college football, college basketball, and rooting for a Big Ten team. From a young age, I loved bicycling, and playing softball, basketball, and flag football. I have developed a new passion in the last few years: swimming. My son is a competitive swimmer and earned his high school swim team points in the state championships this past year. I passionately watched the US swim team as they competed in the Olympics and loved the happiness and enthusiasm the team members showed. As I was growing up, generally there were two places my mom could find me if she could find me nowhere else: 1) high up in one of the trees on a big branch, hiding and reading a book, 2) in the barn or out in the pasture or field riding, grooming, or training my pony. My parents were working white collar folks without a lot of money to spare when I was young, however, with mom’s passion for horses, she would always find a way to own one horse. Summers were spent up and down creeks and corn fields, playing catch and kick-the-can, and gardening. Mom’s gardens were huge; enough to feed the family through the winter! We canned and cooked and froze all sorts of vegetables and fruits and loved the years we spent living next to an orchard that the farmer needed help taking care of. Currently, scouting and my dogs take up a significant portion of my discretionary hours. I am a Webelos Den Leader and Cub Scout Day Camp Director. The Webelos are the 10-year-old boys finishing up the Cub Scouting program and preparing for Boy Scouts and teenage adventure. We have a lot of fun as we practice first aid, campfire, cooking, and hiking skills. My favorite activity is when we go to Bellevue Aquatic Center in January for the boys to work on completing their Aquanaut badge. Safe swimming is a great pastime and fun physical activity and I love watching the boys learn and grow in the water. Cub Scout Day Camp is a week of fun for boys who have completed kindergarten and not yet completed fifth grade. We have archery, STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) activities, woodcraft, first aid; and this year at Luther Burbank on Mercer Island we had beach front activities. The dog breed I have chosen as an adult is the Havanese; the national dog of Cuba and Cuba’s only native breed. Havanese are a small, sturdy, joyful, playful bundle of happiness and love, and young Havanese seem like puppy-bunny-kitty-dogs as they hop down the hall, bat their toys, and love us with all their heart. If a Havanese could meet and greet every human and dog in the world, that Havanese would be the happiest dog alive! As a family, we love living in the Pacific Northwest because we love the outdoors, the great hiking and camping, the beautiful vistas and incredible waterways. The people and scenery make it worth it to stay in the area and learn how to do everything-in-the-rain. Camping, bicycling, and barbequing in the rain are the three things I am most proud of having learned how to do in Puget Sound style!
