Pawares (Mac) P.

Private tutor in Bellevue, WA

Education

I graduated from University of Washington, Seattle with the class of 2013 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and a minor degree in Mathematics. Although I have always had a strong background in mathematical field, I have a big passion for science knowledge especially medicine, astronomy and wild life, which is why I chose to finish my 4 year college-degree in biochemistry, and spent the rest of my spare credits in math classes. My overall GPA for all 4 years was a 3.1, with the Math GPA ~ 3.7.

Experience

Classes I have taken at UW: Chemistry series, Organic Chemistry series, Organic Chemistry labs, Biology series, Anatomy, Genome Science, Microbiology and lab, Physical Chemistry, Biochemistry series. High School grades/score: AP Calculus I : 4 AP Calculus II: 3 Math SAT: 750 ACT Math: 34 Biology/physics/chemistry GPA: 4.0 Overall High School GPA: 3.95 Tutoring Experience: In the past 3 years, I have been tutoring part time at several places. 1) Berkeley Prep and Consulting, Bellevue. I am currently working here as a class and test prep instructor for several subjects including SAT II Subject Tests and AP classes (Physics and Chemistry), Geometry class, ACT Math and Science Reading, and private Math lessons upon request. The amount of students in each classes can range from 1-4 students. Our company’s mission is more than just to help students do well in their classes and standardized tests, but also to help them get into their desired universities through consultation and leading them to become the students that top-tier universities are looking for. Company Website: http://www.berkeleyus.com 2) Washington Test Prep, Bellevue & Seattle. I have recently just got accepted to be one of their SAT II Math Subject Test Teacher. This company is currently ranking as one of the best Math preparation company due to the fact that the company founder is extremely high in experience and talented. I have been proper trained by him and now ready to enter the field. http://www.washingtontestprep.com 3) College Nannies and Tutors on Mercer Island where I have helped majority of my students achieved their goals of getting "A"s in their math classes. The ones who didn’t get A’s, but maintained consistent sessions, have had significant improvement in their GPAs and performance in classes. With this company, the students would come to meet up for sessions at our center where we provided learning friendly environment, and optional private room if needed. 4) Club-Z In-Home Tutor, Bellevue. I got a request from Club-Z to tutor Chemistry for one of their students who was really struggling to pass his high school chemistry class. We spent the last 4 weeks of school together (2-3 sessions each week) to catch up before his finals. He ended up doing really well on the final exams and felt that Chemistry wasn’t as hard as he thought it was before we had the sessions! 5) In-home/Library Private Tutor. On top of all these companies I have been working for, many of my clients/students found me through online advertising including Craigslist and UniversityTutor.com where we would then meet up at their houses, library or coffee shops for our sessions. One thing that I really appreciate about finding the clients on my own is that they help expanding my connections to their other family members and friends via word by mouths about my quality service! Additional Experience: In high school, I was one of the founders of Math-Tutoring Club that was being held every Wednesday to help high school students with their math homework and exams. I tutored all high school math classes up to Calculus since I was 2 years ahead in math classes. In college, I have had multiple jobs in both math and science fields. One of them was a tutor at the Instructional Center where student could come in at any time to get help. I was a tutor for most math classes from Algebra, Geometry, Business math, up to advance Calculus and Differential equation. I can also tutor linear equations, but I just need to refresh my memory real quick if I get requested. Often times, the students would also come in to ask me for Chemistry, O.Chem, and Physics help also. However, science tutor wasn't as at high demand there, so I was mainly a math tutor. Although I am a better math student, I decided to major in biochemistry because I love the science knowledge. I find the knowledge of this field very fascinating. Because of that, when I tutor science classes, I can make them become very interesting thing to students which also help motivating them to learn better. After all, I want to be a tutor because it is fun. I love helping other people to be successful in their classes. I find my way of teaching quite unique and effective, because I care a lot about how much students understand. I'm very strategical when it comes to teaching by adjusting myself to different student and find the best way that each student can learn such as memorization, visualization, conversation, etc. In addition, I have high patience and energetic tutor. I know when student starts to lose some focus and how to get them back on track due to a lot tutoring experiences. Often time, I use outside-of-the-textbook knowledge to help improving students’ interests and understanding! Other relevant experiences: Genome Science Lab Assistance for 2 years Anesthesiology Lab Assistance for 1 year Last thing I want to say is that if you want me to help looking over your College App, I wouldn't mind helping to do it, too. It's fun to read and I want to help :)

Hobbies

Currently, I am working part times (30 hrs/week) as a tutor/teacher and as a server (15 hrs/week). I am saving up money for Data Science Program that I hope to enroll by the end of 2016 or next Spring. I am also taking 2 coding classes at the moment (Python and Machine Learning) in order to prepare myself for the program. Many parents like having me as their kids' tutors because on top of helping the students to achieve their goals, I also try my best to be a good role model for them. In order to be a great tutor, I need to also care about students' personal interests because just like how human works, once you care for them and they would care back for you. This means the students would focus more on what I am about to teach them. In my free time, I like to exercise with friends like go to the gym to play basketball, lift weights, swim, bike, etc. I also go bouldering once a week with my roommates at Seattle Bouldering Project. I like to read Science magazine for fun at coffee shop before my work. Last, I enjoy going out to eat at new restaurants to try new things.
